CONNECT THE DISCONNECTED

Denfair Australia gives emerging creatives from all across Australia an opportunity to place their work in front of industry-leading adjudicators. In 2021 Denfair provided students with an open brief calling for a new and contemporary design for the Front Centre display.

In response to social events during 2021, the design I put forward created a strong sense of community and togetherness. The concept was - To connect the disconnected in a way that celebrates and showcases the individuality of each designer’s work.

2021 had been particularly different for many people, whereby we were all in this unusual position of being together - yet separated. And while each piece of furniture from the designers was completely different to the next, the one thing that they all had in common was that they were at Denfair to be brought together.

Through a simple and flexible approach that integrates seamlessly with the products on display, the Front Centre display allows every designer a platform to be seen and heard while following this concept of connecting the disconnected.

Sustainability, flexibility and adaptive reuse were all considerations in this project. The brief called for a carefully curated design to utilise a series of 20 MDF sheets leaving little waste and resulting in a product - that was simple yet adaptable to suit the changing environment. The proposed design allowed for easy assembly and disassembly while ensuring good sightlines and accessibility for individuals interacting with the structure.
