FLEXIBLY bushfire relief pods

Re-use habitat

Each year, the catastrophic effects of Australian bushfires see many people displaced from their homes left with nothing but the belongings they can carry and no shelter. Unfortunately, there is currently no widespread emergency housing solution to this worsening and devastating issue.

The Brief for this project called for a simple design that was both - secure and temporary. The proposed design needed to be economically viable, feasible and innovative to support the needs of every individual.

The Response was – Flexibly - A supportive and transitional home that intends to act as a safe, comfortable and nurturing space for individuals as they re-establish a sense of home. Intending to highlight the three main themes – connection, cocoon and inclusion, the Flexi-wall system underpins the importance of inclusive and accessible spaces.

Inspired by the design of Connect Four and Lego mats, users essentially can preselect one of 6-floor plan fit-outs. With this - users then have the freedom of installing the Flexi-wall panels as they wish to support the diverse lifestyles of each individual.
