FLEXIBLY bushfire relief pods
Re-use habitat
Modular, adaptable emergency housing designed to provide safe, inclusive shelter for bushfire-affected communities.
Subject - Design for Environments (Grade 88)
Group Project by Sally Holm & Kylie Shandon
Each year, the catastrophic effects of Australian bushfires see many people displaced from their homes, left with nothing but the belongings they can carry and no shelter. Unfortunately, there is currently no widespread emergency housing solution to this worsening and devastating issue.
The Brief for this project called for a simple design that was both secure and temporary. The proposed design needed to be economically viable, feasible, and innovative to support the needs of every individual.
The Response was – Flexibly - A supportive and transitional home that intends to act as a safe, comfortable, and nurturing space for individuals as they re-establish a sense of home. Intending to highlight the three main themes - connection, cocoon, and inclusion, the flexi-wall system underpins the importance of inclusive and accessible spaces.
Inspired by the design of Connect Four and Lego mats, users can essentially preselect one of six floor plan fit-outs. With this, users then have the freedom of installing the flexi-wall panels as they wish, to support the diverse lifestyles of each individual.
